Dreaming of the touring Scotland, taking off this winter for a tour around Europe or just the loving the feeling of freedom & heading off whenever you please. Or you might just be sick of the airport!! Whatever your reason for buying a VW Campervan so many of customers TRY BEFORE THEY BUY.
OK...let's start with the basics. How much is it going to cost!? Well, the good news is that there are Campervans to suit most budgets. You can pay £10-15K for a used Campervan with circa 200K miles or you can buy a brand new Campervan for upwards of £50K.
We have bought 3 Campervans & have followed a tested formula. That is - we've bought the VW T5 or T6 direct for an official VW Dealership. Check out used vans on the main VW website. We stay clear of the startline - which is the entry level van as it has no A/C. So we've either bought trendline or the highline models. Buying from VW provides peace of mind that you have got yourself a great van to start with. Make sure the paintwork is all OK & the front cabin. Don't worry about the rear - as you will be ripping that out & covering all the interior.
You now need to think about what you will need, how many will be travelling etc. All of our Campervans have pop top roof with bed (circa £2.5K), insulation, fully carpeted, front swivel seats, rock & roll bed, glazing, twin hob burner, sink, heating and all are reupholstered. We also have tow bars so we can carry bike racks & all have awning rails so we can attach drive away inflatable awnings.
Thats quite a bit of kit. And you won't get much change from £10K. You then need to find a convertor. That is a firm or someone who will do the conversion for you. Conversions can take from 4 weeks to 3 months depending on who you use. The cost of the conversion is around 2-3K depending on where you go. Choose wisely & do your research as you have lots of electric's, gas & water. So needs to be safe!
The Campervans are super fun, lovely to drive & look great! So if you re thinking of lamping out £30K on a VW Campervan you might want to TRY BEFORE YOU BUY.
