There are certain things in life that make the perfect combo. Pancakes & syrup, banana & chocolate, Yorkshire puddings & gravy...and the Netherlands & Cycling. If I may, could I just squeeze the VW Campervan into that perfect Dutch Cycling combo. The Campervan was our vehicle of choice as we made our way through Essex & Kent through the Tunnel & across to the European mainland. And it made for a very comfortable journey & 2 night stay. Complete with inflatable awning & Thermal Wrap.
Our October Half Term break saw us head for Duinrell complete with water park, theme park & only 30 mins cycle from the beautiful coastal resort of Scheveningen. The Park is complete with everything you will need from restaurants, bars, bowling alleys, super clean shower blocks & great pitches for your VW Campervan.
The drive from Calais is only about 3 hours...although you can also take the ferry from Harwich which is a great start to your holiday & the drive is then only 45 mins from Rotterdam to Duinrell.
The major advantage for the cyclists is that the Netherlands make the whole cycling experience so pleasurable. Dedicated cycle lanes connect all towns & cities & enable you to park the Campervan, stick up the awning & head off on your bike. No need to drive anywhere. The Dutch refuse to make the car the main choice of transportation...cyclists are super safe on the cycle lanes & super connected. So make sure you choose the bike rack option & load up the bikes & take advantage of this super cycling friendly country.
Once you've done exploring around Duinrell then take some time to enjoy the water park & theme park. You'll need a full day to do both & the kids (and possibly Dad) will be asking to go back to the water park & ride the Death Slide. Its ACE!! The theme park is packed full of rides, toboggans and very healthy restaurants plus the odd pancake stall??!!
The costs of a nights pitch inc. entry to the water park & theme park was around £50 per night (although that was Oct.) But still amazing value & well worth heading across to the Netherlands for some seriously cool Glamping at Duinrell.
